BALACLAVA FEST 2025

The Tokio Marine Hall in Sao Paulo was transformed into the epicenter of indie and alternative music with the 15th edition of the Balaclava Fest.

The event, already consolidated in Sao Paulo cultural calendar, maintained its identity by mixing international icons from the 90s with promising acts from the contemporary scene, both Brazilian and foreign.

The audience that packed the venue was able to check out seven attractions distributed across two stages, ensuring that there were no conflicting schedules between the shows.

Among the most anticipated headliners, the Anglo-French band Stereolab and the American trio Yo La Tengo revived the glory of 90s indie rock. Stereolab, known for their inventive avant-pop, closed the night with a very well-executed show that included surprises for long-time fans. Yo La Tengo, with their experimental and emotional sound, offered memorable moments preceding the main attraction.

The festival also served as a showcase for national talent, many associated with the Balaclava Records label. Gab Ferreira presented her contemporary pop.

The project Walfredo em Busca da Simbiose (Walfredo in Search of Symbiosis) blended MPB (Brazilian Popular Music), dream pop, and psychedelia.

The post-punk band from Parana, Jovens Ateus (Young Atheists), captivated the audience with an energetic performance.

In addition to the veterans, the 2025 edition featured significant international names. The English artist Geordie Greep (leader of Black Midi) presented his acclaimed solo album, The New Sound (2024), accompanied by Brazilian musicians who participated in the recording. The American alternative rock trio Horse Jumper of Love completed the lineup, each act bringing their distinct sounds, from introspective slowcore to danceable house music.

The festival experience also counted with an exclusive stage sponsored by Vans, which hosted shows by Walfredo em Busca da Simbiose, Jovens Ateus, Gab Ferreira, and Horse Jumper of Love, and offered activations and a comfort lounge for the public.

Geordie Greep, Yo La Tengo e Stereolab performed at the main stage.

Balaclava Fest 2025 reinforced its position as a refuge for alternative music fans, building bridges between different generations.
